A legendary music industry veteran with a career spanning over 45 years, recently served a short span as Executive Vice President at Hipgnosis Songs Fund Limited. From 2011 to 2020, Richard was Vice-Chairman and a founding partner at Round Hill Music, where he was instrumental in capital raising, deal sourcing, and catalog acquisition for the startup music publishing and rights management firm that evolved into three funds and a spin-off public entity on the LSE, totaling over $1 billion in assets under management.
At Round Hill, Richard played a key role in sourcing many of their most important acquisitions, including Carlin Music, Eddie Holland, Arthouse (Kara DioGuardi), Eric Carmen, Brody Brown, Randy Bachman, and the GIL/GPS catalog, which included the first six hit songs by The Beatles.
Richard began his career in 1979 as a lawyer in CBS Records’ Business Affairs Department. He rose through the ranks, ultimately becoming President of Sony Music Publishing (renamed Sony/ATV Music Publishing in 1995) from 1991 to 2005. During his tenure, Richard made the deal with Michael Jackson that led to Sony/ATV Music Publishing’s acquisition of The Beatles’ catalog and the acquisition of Acuff-Rose Music, which included the catalogs of Roy Orbison and The Everly Brothers. From 2006 to 2010, Richard was a Founding Partner of R2M Music.
Richard holds a B.A. from City of London College and the College of Law. In 1977, he was admitted as a Solicitor in the U.K.
